At what age should my child start swimming lessons?
We believe children should start as young as possible, which is why our program caters for babies aged 4+ months.
How long will it take my child to learn how to swim?
There is no easy answer to this one! Each child is unique and they will progress at different rates, including siblings :) Our program is structured to help children build on core skills throughout each level. Maximum practice time is the key and we do encourage our Northern Stars swimmers to have 2 lessons per week to best help their progress.
Do you offer make up lessons?
Our committment to a quality lesson means we don't have children coming in and out of your child's class all term. Make-ups are very disruptive to both the child and the teacher so they are not part of the program at Northern Stars. However if your child misses 3 or more consecutive lessons in a term due to illness or family holiday please speak with our desk staff.
Does my child need to wear a cap and googles?
We require our Milkyway level and above (3 years+) to wear a cap and googles to help with pool hygiene. Our lessons are structured to offer regular google free time so children become comfortable submerging and swimming both with and without goggles.
What should my baby wear in their lesson?
All children under 3 are required to be double layered (disposable swim nappy and fabric swim nappy) in our pool, even if toilet trained. We don't encourage rash vests for babies as they can impede their movement in the water - a tighter fitting swim costume is best. We do recommend that parents/carers wear a rash vest or tshirt to allow your baby something to grab on to during lessons.
My child is afraid of the water and i'm worried how they will cope with swimming lessons, what should i do?
Our teachers are trained and supported in dealing with situations like this - our approach for beginner swimmers is very gentle and we will never force a child to submerge until they are ready. Buidling trust with the teacher and confidence in the water is key, and we will work with your child to best support this. If you child is still crying after 3 lessons, talk to our staff about our Smile Finder Club.
What qualifications do your teaching staff have?
All of our staff have industry recognised teaching qualifications plus hold current CPR certificates.
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes we do (including special needs lessons) - please speak with our desk staff for more details.

Yes, discounts apply for families with 3+ children enrolled in a term or 2+ siblings attending 2+ lessons per week.
Do you offer adult swimming lessons?
Yes, you are never too old to learn to swim! Please speak with our desk staff for more details.
