Project 291Northern Stars proudly won a Swim Australia Community Service award for our participation in Project 291, which is a collaboration with Big Fat Smile, Surf Educators International and Bellambi Bowling Club for underprivileged children in our local area. These children are given a free week of intensive swimming lessons, along with beach and surf awareness education. The program has been evolving and is still happening at Northern Stars today with Big Fat Smile organising underprivileged local children to attend and gain life-saving swimming skills.

Skyia Thomas ScholarshipSkyia Thomas was born on 15 July 2001. She was the first baby for Siria & Mal Thomas, and her arrival was eagerly awaited. After a very traumatic posterior birth at 41 weeks, Skyia suffered a brain haemorrhage caused by overuse of the ventouse (suction) and she died on the day she was born.
Over the next 16 years, Siria & Mal were blessed with 3 more beautiful children, and opened Northern Stars Swim School, where children from all over the Illawarra are learning skills that could save their lives in the water. The Northern Stars, Skyia Thomas Scholarship began in 2017, and is a way for Siria & Mal to give back to local families who are under medical hardship, in Skyia’s memory. The recipient of the scholarship receives a year’s worth of swimming lessons free of charge at Northern Stars Swim School |
Supporting Our Local Schools! We are big supporters of our local primary schools, providing donations, fete & raffle prizes and trivia night prizes at various times through out the year.
